DAVID KELBER

Certified Divorce Coach

My life changed in one day.  One day I was married, with a wife, an almost 3-year-old daughter, and an 18-month old son.  The next day, I was wondering what the hell happened and how I was going to manage to live through this unexpected nightmare that was now my new reality.  That nightmare would last for almost 3 years, as I went through an extremely difficult divorce and child custody battle.  I could not have imagined the emotional, physical and financial toll the process of divorce would bring, and it required everything I had to make it through.  Despite my pain, anger and frustration with where I was and what was happening, life didn't stop for me, and it won't stop and wait for you either.  Life carries on, and it demands things of you that you don't feel you are capable of giving at the present time,  Much like myself, you might have children to care for, a job to maintain and a myriad of other responsibilities that require you to show up and be present.  I had to learn how to balance out the emotions, make critical decisions that would impact me and my children's future, control my limited finances, and navigate the intimidating and seemingly endless legal process.  I can tell you that as difficult as the divorce process is, there is a way to not just survive, but actually thrive and come out the other side healthy and happy.  Really?  Yes, really.  Of course it takes time and hard work.  There are NO shortcuts to healing, starting a new life, and becoming whole, but it's possible.  I want to share with you the strategies and experiences I have learned to help you navigate through this difficult experience with empowerment and confidence. You're not alone in this, and if you want someone to walk through this journey with you, then sign up for a FREE, no-obligation intro session; and let's talk about where you're at, where you want to go, and how we can get there together.

Qualifications & Background: I am a Certified Divorce Coach. Prior to divorce coaching, for 20 years I specialized in working with at-risk children/adolescents and their families helping them address and overcome their challenges.  I have an undergraduate degree in Theology and Intercultural Studies, and a Master's degree in Human Services Counseling and Leadership.

I was referred to David for his coaching experience and particularly to help me through a very emotional divorce process.  Our weekly one hour sessions were transformative.  I began meeting my daily and weekly goals and feeling positive about myself and my circumstances not long after our first few sessions together.  I would highly recommend David and his services to anyone struggling through their own divorce or feeling stuck in their current situation.  If you're willing to do the work, David has your process!

To help give a better understanding, let me first address what Divorce Coaching is NOT:

Divorce Coaching is not clinical in nature as therapy or counseling. There is no assumption that a mental health problem exists and a divorce coach does not delve into the past to look for root causes of problematic issues. Divorce Coaching is not intended to replace therapy or counseling, as each offers its own benefit with separate goals and concentrations.  A Divorce Coach does not offer legal advice and does not serves as a substitute for your attorney.

Now, I will explain what Divorce Coaching IS:

Divorce is a dramatic and often traumatic life altering experience.  Divorce Coaching provides support, structure, encouragement, and opportunities for you to learn and grow.  Divorce Coaching focuses on the present situation you are in and provides best practices to help you manage the challenges, changes, and decisions you will face during the divorce process, while also helping you establish a necessary support system. Through a pro-active and collaborative approach, coaching provides you with tools, practical advice, perspective, goal-setting and accountability.  It can help you establish better clarity, awareness, communication (with your spouse and your attorney), ask better questions, and gain empowerment and confidence through the divorce process.

Coaching is a collaborative process, and it requires we work together if we are going to achieve the results you want.  The reality is that getting positive results, creating change and moving into a new direction for your life means getting through this storm.  You can’t go around it, you have to go through it, and that takes time and perseverance.  Getting through a divorce, and healing the right way isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon that requires patience, strategy, and endurance.  Because I am committed to helping clients heal the right way, and due to the personal nature of divorce coaching, I only offer my coaching program over a span of six months.  After our initial intro session, if we choose to work together, we will have a total of 20 live 60-minute coaching sessions. These are done via phone, or live-video via Skype or Zoom.  The first two months will have 4 calls per month, typically one per week.  The following 4 months will have 3-calls per month.  My coaching includes providing you with various tools to assist you throughout the divorce process.  I also have Accountability Check-ins during the week via text or chat, to stay connected and offer you additional support and encouragement.  If you would like to find out more, or if you’re ready to get started, then schedule a FREE no-obligation intro session with me, and let’s get started moving you into a new direction!

A Divorce Coach can assist you with many of the issues that surround your divorce (before, during and after).  Here are some of the ways I help my clients:

Provide support and guidance: Your attorney is the go-to expert for all things legal, but you DON’T want to use your attorney as a sounding board for your frustrations or the
rollercoaster of emotions you’re feeling; especially not at their hourly rate!  I will provide you with support and guidance while helping you sort through your thoughts and emotions.

Increase your self-confidence and self-image:  Divorce can leave you feeling unloved, unworthy, and unprepared for the deluge of emotions that come with it.  Together, we will look at your true value, regardless of status or circumstance, and help you be more confident, hopeful, and excited about the ‘new you’ and the future that lies ahead.

Communicate more effectively with your ex-spouse:  Communication can be challenging whether you’re married or divorced!  Effective communication is essential though if you are going to sort through difficult and necessary issues with success.  You and I will look at how you currently communicate and determine what is or isn’t working.  We will develop new strategies to help you communicate your thoughts with clarity, confidence, and effectiveness.

Develop a co-parenting strategy and set clear co-parenting goals:  If there are children involved in your divorce, regardless of the custody outcome, learning to co-parenting effectively with your ex will only benefit you and your children.  You and I will work to ensure that you have the necessary skills and tools to co-parent (despite painful emotions and differing views), and develop clear goals and strategies to help you stay focused on parenting the right way for your child(ren)’s sake!

Provide clarity to help you separate your emotions from the legal issues at hand:  Divorce brings with it a myriad of emotions and legal issues to deal with, and it’s important to make those decisions with a clear and focused mindset.  Together, we will work to make sure your emotions are kept out of the legal arena, so the important decisions that affect you now and going forward are sound, intentional, and beneficial.

Help you effectively and successfully transition from married life to being single again:  Being single again can initially seem overwhelming and unfamiliar.  We will journey through your newfound singleness, helping you to adjust to the changes, and even see the benefits of being single. (yes, there are benefits!)

Set new goals and develop a strategy for achieving them: A goal without a plan of action is nothing more than a good idea. We will work together to set new realistic goals and put a plan of action in place to achieve them.

Address barriers that keep you from moving forward: You can’t see what’s ahead if you’re constantly looking in the rearview mirror. We will look at what’s keeping you stuck, and develop a clear strategy to get you moving forward.

These are just some of the ways hiring a Divorce Coach can benefit you.  If you would like to talk with me about how we can work together to help you navigate through your divorce process, then schedule a FREE, no-obligation intro session with me.  I look forward to hearing from you!
